BIOGRAPHY

Jay was born to Mr. Dhaharasen and Mrs. Sundari on May 29th, 1976. He’s the oldest of all three siblings. He has a younger sister and a brother. He was born and raised in Penang, Malaysia. At a very early age, Jay began to cultivate an interest in music and began playing the keyboard. He excelled at Music Lesson in his primary school and was appointed as the Music Conductor at the age of 9; representing his school SRK Westland, Penang. He got the opportunity to join a live band at the age of 13 and went on to create his own musical band named ‘Minnal’ at 17. He gained most of his experience by performing in many local music bands and shows as an adolescent.

CAREER

After graduating high school, Jay worked in a lawyer’s firm with his boss, Mr. Palaniappan Ramasamy, who saw his potential and set-up a mini recording studio in his chamber (at the office) to support Jay with his passion. This became his first recording studio. With initial support from his primary school music teacher, Mr. Yap from SRK Westland, Jay began to study more about compositions and music. Later, Jay traveled to Kuala Lumpur to become a Music Director.

Jay landed himself a job at Twinstrow Studio as soon as he arrived in Kuala Lumpur. He launched the ‘Voice Bank’ program, a project that grooms new talents to become professional contemporary singers. With the ‘Voice Bank’ project achieving immense recognition, he soon found himself an opportunity to compose music for a Malaysian Indian movie named ‘Aandal’ in 2005. In 2008, Jay formed his own recording studio, Orange Box Studio, in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. Thus far, Jay has composed more than 250 songs, produced hundreds of advertisements, jingles, and commercials.

PINGAT JASA KEBAKTIAN (PJK)

On 8th November 2021, Jay was awarded prestigious PJK, Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (Devotion Service Medal) medal by Penang Government in conjunction with the 72th birthday of Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi Bin Haji Abdul Razak Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang. This medal is awarded to individuals who have rendered valuable or deserving service or have served responsibly for the nation.

CERTIFIED TTT (TRAIN-THE-TRAINER)

On 26th March 2021, Jay was awarded the TTT (Train-The-Trainer) certificate by Malaysia’s Human Resources Development Corporation (HRDCorp). Six months after receiving the TTT certificate, Jay’s Orange Box Studio was named as Certified Training Provider by HRDCorp under Akta Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad, 2001.
